This course is part four of a 5-module course sequence on data privacy. In case you are enrolled into one of the other modules DVAD30, DVAD31, DVAD32, DVAD33, DVAD35, it will be beneficial if you take the modules in sequence before you approach this module.

Please make sure you know whether you are enrolled for study credit (through official accreditation of your acadmic qualifications through the Swedish university administation system), or whether you participate in the OPEN version of the course (applicaiton by e-mail, no formalities necessary)! Enrolled students will have mandatory homework assignments, while the open course students are left to study at their own responsibility.

Information privacy and data protection are important topics for industry, individuals,
and society as a whole. This course will provide you with the foundations of the privacy and data protection
discourse and how they relate to IT management. It will familiarize you with approaches to organizational management of information privacy.

Privacy management is the responsibility of any organization that collects and processes
personal information. Such collection and handling of often very sensitive personal data can impair people's lives and put them at risk. It may even create dangers to society as a whole, for example by
creating mistrust in social relationships.

Mishandling of personal data may impose costly sanctions on firms, too. Therefore, many countries have defined rules for processing personal data. This course will show you approaches to organizational privacy management. It includes the application of privacy risk assessment and privacy impact assessment
as parts of the privacy management activity. We will learn about managerial procedures, and we will select privacy controls  that reduce identified risks.

The course will provide you with background material and references for further study.

Please go on and familiarize yourself with the course concept and with the course schedule  by reading the student requirements, the learning platform instructions and the  examination information documents!

The course consists of five chapters and supplementary materials. The case study examination is available for enrolled students only.
